Halfway into the year, we didn’t expect one of the most talked about moments in Zambian music to be Macky 2 & Frank Ro. It came in the form of an official statement, dropped quietly on a Friday morning from Frank Ro’s Facebook page, confirming what many may not have seen coming: the Kabwe born Afrofusion artist has parted ways with Olijaba Entertainment, Macky 2’s label… and is stepping into the next chapter of his career as an independent artist.

Less than two hours later, Macky 2 himself responded publicly.

By lunchtime, Zambian entertainment was on fire.

Frank Ro's Statement

Posted at 11:28 AM on June 19, 2026, and captioned simply "To the C E O of Olijaba, Mr Macky 2 sir. To more wins and thank you 🙏" - Frank Ro's official statement was measured, gracious, and clearly carefully written.

He confirmed that his recording agreement with Olijaba Entertainment "has come to an end" and announced he will be moving forward as an independent artist. The tone was deliberately clean: gratitude first, no shade, no drama. He credited Olijaba for "believing in my vision, supporting my journey, and helping shape the artist I am today," and described the label as "more than a business partnership it was a family, a foundation, and a home."

"There is no negativity, only gratitude and respect," he wrote. "I leave this chapter with appreciation for everyone who has been part of the journey and with excitement for what lies ahead."

He closed with a line that functions almost like a mission statement for the road ahead: "THE JOURNEY CONTINUES, AND THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF A NEW CHAPTER."

The Timing Is Everything

If you have been paying attention to Zambian music over the past few months, the timing of Frank Ro's exit is the story within the story.

Frank Ro recently featured on "Budget" a track by Yo Maps and delivered what many fans are calling one of the standout hooks of 2026. The record picked up serious traction, introduced Frank Ro to a new wave of listeners, and arguably represented the biggest commercial moment of his career to date. Shortly after, he announced he is going independent.

Fans were quick to connect the dots. One comment under Frank Ro's post put it plainly: "After Macky 2 puts you on the Budget and you decide to go independent." The reference landed immediately. Frank Ro reaching a new ceiling on a track facilitated through the Olijaba network, then walking out the door right after — it is a detail the internet is not going to forget quickly. But this is only a rumor and not a fact.

Who Is Frank Ro And Why Does This Matter?

For anyone catching up: Frank Ro is a Kabwe born Afrofusion and R&B artist whose musical journey started in 2012. With over 276,000 Facebook likes and 85,000 monthly Spotify listeners, he is a rising figure in Zambia's music industry, though he hasn’t reached the very top yet. That is precisely what made his time at Olijaba significant. The label gave him access to infrastructure, collaborations, and the credibility that comes from working within one of Zambia's most established entertainment structures.

Olijaba Entertainment is Macky 2's own label. Founded by Mulaza Kaira — known to Zambia as Macky 2, and to Copperbelt as King Bugar, Olijaba takes its name from Kopala street lingo meaning "Original." The motto: "Be Original. Be Olijaba." Beyond Frank Ro, the label has signed artists including Ozone Africa, and built a collective identity through releases like the 10 Of 10 Project series.

Macky 2 himself needs little introduction. The Chingola born hip-hop icon brother to Chef 187, Big Brother Africa alumnus, founder of the Macky 2 Hope Foundation is one of the most decorated and respected names in Zambian music history. When he builds a label, the artists on its roster matter.

Macky 2 Responds

Macky 2 posted his response at 12:49 PM roughly an hour and twenty minutes after Frank Ro's statement. And unlike his artist's carefully worded exit, Macky 2 came through with the kind of direct, unfiltered energy Zambia has come to expect from King Bugar.

Opening with "Mwaiche wandi Frank Ro" Bemba for "my younger brother, Frank Ro" - he did not pretend the moment did not sting. "Ine I think I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed," he wrote. But he quickly redirected from the personal to the professional:

"Olijaba Entertainment is family.. yes, but more importantly ni business entity. We invested time, resources and belief into an artist we saw greatness in."

He chose not to air out specifics — "I won't air out contracts or point fingers" but his message had weight. He framed the moment as a lesson for the wider industry, particularly for young artists watching from the outside: "the next young artist watching your exit needs to see that this is a two-way street. The way you carry yourself now might close doors for the next talent who deserves a shot at a deal."

He also made it clear this was not bitterness on his part — noting that his campaign in Nchanga is going well, and signing off by reaffirming his belief in Frank Ro's talent and keeping the door open: "my doors will always be open if you ever need me."

He closed as Olijaba Entertainment CEO.

What the Industry Is Saying

The comments sections on both posts became a live forum for Zambia's entertainment community and one response stood above the rest. Magnate, a prominent figure in the Zambian creative space, dropped a two- iner under Macky 2's post that said everything without needing to say much:

"Above everything — Value loyalty. A valuable lesson I learnt in life."

Not a hot take. Not a side being chosen. Just a principle. And Zambia's creative community felt it.

Fans had mixed reactions. One person compared the situation to Muzo AKA Alphonso, suggesting that going solo doesn’t always turn out how artists hope. Another fan said, "For the first time, someone has used Macky 2," meaning Frank Ro used Macky 2’s platform to gain attention and then left once he was successful.

What Comes Next?

As of today, Frank Ro has announced independence and nothing beyond that. No label signings confirmed, no new project announced.

But the speculation is already moving. A number of fans are floating the idea that Frank Ro's next move could be toward Olios Records — the record label of Yo Maps. Given the "Budget" collaboration and the obvious chemistry between the two artists, it is not hard to see why people are reading between the lines. For now, though, it remains speculation. Nothing has been confirmed from either side.

What is confirmed is this: Frank Ro enters the independent chapter of his career with genuine momentum, a growing audience, and a considerable amount of industry eyes on how he handles the road ahead.

This story is not really about who was right and who was wrong. Both Frank Ro and Macky 2 navigated a public split with more dignity than most and that is genuinely rare in these situations.

The bigger story is the one Macky 2 himself put in writing: Zambia's music industry needs to grow beyond handshake deals and feelings-first agreements. Labels invest. Artists develop. When those two parties do not have clear, enforceable mutual commitments about what loyalty and compensation actually look like this is what happens. And it plays out publicly, on Facebook, for hundreds of thousands of people to watch in real time.

Frank Ro said the journey continues.

Judging by the response to today's posts — it already has.
